Update: 1 Week Without Social Media!

… I’ll be honest, I started writing this just after midnight August 1st after I deleted social media off my phone and started my quest to live social media free for one fulll year!

I had to start writing this because I felt like I needed to find an alternative for something to check before I went to bed. This would usually be the time I hop on and at least check notifications and scroll through a bit before I fall asleep.

Is that sad that the first thing I want to do is check my phone before I go to bed? Is it sad that now that I took that option away, I’m feeling like I have to find some alternative?

Not really. I don’t think so. With any changes we want to make in life, we have to start somewhere, with something. Compiling shame into the equation isn’t going to add any good.

As silly as doing one year without social media sounds, it does sound challenging for me. But I can do it. I gave my word, and I’m going to keep that. Now begins the fun part of figuring out how, solving problems, creating different routes, and finding out who I become through this.

The one thing I’m probably most excited for with this challenge is to stop seeing everyone’s best. It should be fun to see everyone how they really look and act away from the thumbnail versions of their lives we see online.

I feel like this giving up social media will be sort of like an escape for me, but an escape away from exaggerations, and back into reality.

I’m still here. I’m just working more quietly and without the distractions.
