Time Away/ Missing Out

Sometimes I feel like we are raising the next generation of patience-less, anxiety ridden children, with more opportunities than ever, and more fear of missing out on them than ever as well.

I feel like this, because I include myself in that generation. My generation, and the ones below me have the internet available for everything. We have constant information, constant news, and constant opportunities for connection, just a click away.

But what I also notice is an overwhelming fear of ‘missing out.’ With more opportunities, comes more things that we have to miss out on. We cannot be everywhere at once, even if we watch everyone else, everywhere.

Call me overly critical, or whatever you want, but I’ve experienced this firsthand. I know what it’s like to grow up in the generation. I know what it’s like to feel that constant feeling of ‘missing out,’ of exclusion, of failing to have a life as great as what’s shown online.

I’m calling for action that we all start intentionally missing out. What better way to rid yourself of that constant anxiety and constant FOMO, than to intentionally ‘Miss Out’ and see that everything is still okay. Get rid of your phone for a day. Take time away from social media, and from constantly checking your phone at the slightest hint of boredom.

Better yet, find a reason to miss out. Plan something special, long term that will replace all of that time anxiously checking updates for changes. Think of something you can build using that extra time.

MISS OUT.
