What is the value of feelings? What do our feelings tell us about our true beliefs and thoughts?
Are our feelings more intuitive about who we really are or are they false, something to be suppressed.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about our schools. We teach a lot of know how and a lot of rules, but are we teaching students how to think for themselves and how to sort through their feelings.
Because it’s really easy to sit there behind a desk, knowing the most in the class, and simply point out what everyone else is doing wrong, but it’s hard to admit that not all rules are always applicable. It’s hard to think for yourself. It’s hard to ask why and search for deeper meanings. It’s harder to find the purpose and meaning behind the message, than it is to follow simple steps and rules.
I believe that how we feel matters. So I couldn’t care less about the rules when they’re delivered without empathy for feeling. I’ll listen to someone who teaches with empathy and patience.
Because it’s easy to follow a rule. It takes understanding and confidence to break one.
I don’t care about the rules until you teach me why they’re there. And I’ll look at you in anger if you correct me without first approaching me with grace, compassion, and kindness.
You know the rules? Cool. Congratulations. Put that on a plaque. Now what?
