The Modern Snake Oil Salesman

When you find yourself at the place where you need to make changes, the road is long, and the journey is difficult.

Joy is found in the pain, not in the avoidance of it.

Joy is found in the process, the mess, etc.

It’s often not a one small choice, and then ‘everything got better.’ Rather it’s more often a, ‘and then I decided to work through it. I decided to acknowledge it. I decided not to let it control me. I decided to fight.’

The modern snake oil salesmen are easy to spot. They’re the ‘one quick fix.’ They’re the ‘look how easy it was. See, check out what I have. No work required.’

They’re online. They’re in books. Real change takes work. Real change doesn’t happen overnight. Real change is difficult.

They’re the guys on youtube saying: ‘Hey, look how easy this is. I just walked out of my garage with my million dollar car. I have this big house and people love me. Everything is easy. See how great my life is. Yours can be great too if you just give me some money to help pay for the lavish life I pretend to live."…

…errmm… no thanks.

You know what beats falling into those tricks? Showing up every single day and working hard. Showing up to put in the extra hours when no one else is there. It’s time after time, year after year. There’s no shortcuts.
