Short Term vs. Long Term

Ironically, when I took my focus off the short term, and instead started focusing all my attention on a long term clear goal (publishing a book), my short term improved drastically.

I’ve never really been consistent in creating and posting something everyday. There’s alway distractions that get in the way, a reason to lose focus. But since I decided to make a serious commitment to caring less what people think of me, and more on creating generous work for others, my productivity skyrocketed. I did a sketch everyday for 50 days straight all while traveling the world, and I’m also writing these journal entries everyday for 365 days straight. All because I decided that I wanted to dream that I could be capable of publishing a book worth sharing with others.

If you have a long term dream you’d like to achieve, but you’re worried about what you will lose in the present, take time to evaluate. Maybe you need to relax in your short term obligations and habits and instead begin planning a better long term vision.

Our long term goals always effect our short Term day to day lives. If you want a lot of short term daily gratification, step back and think about your long term. You’ll be more purposeful. You’ll have a reason to create and share even when you’re tired, frustrated, worried, etc. Your long term goal will help you to become more consistent in the short term.
