I’m the type of guy that goes to the library once a month and checks out a dozen art history books. I’ll check out everyone: Basquiat, Pollock, Cezanne, da Vinci, de Kooning (both Willem & Elaine), Van Gogh, Picasso, etc. If I want to be good at something, I’m all in.
I’m not at the absolute top of the naturally gifted spectrum, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Most people aren’t. That’s why I can relate.
Most things I’ve learned have came from extremely hard work, and learning from others. I guess there’s people that things just come easy for. I’ve never felt like that kind of person. I’ve always had to work for it, but the hard work is part of my story. It’s a part of all our stories. How we fight against the grain in our lives and look to make changes is what inspires others.
If we fight long enough, we begin see that our struggle is no longer a hindrance to our lives, but a part of our story as a whole. We fight that battle our whole lives, and at the end, that’s our legacy, not our perfection, but our battles we fought against.
