Missing Out Is Underrated

I’m starting my social media challenge this week, Thursday to be exact. I’ll be doing no social media for 1 full year starting August 1, 2019 & ending August 1, 2020.

Seeing my numbers of how often I used social media last week, it’s crazy seeing how often I mindlessly picked up my cell phone and checked Instagram when when I was bored.

I don’t have anything against social media. I think it’s a great tool if managed well. But I also know it can be pretty addictive, & It’s a struggle to not get carried away sometimes.

To top it off, I think our culture perpetuates this idea of ‘keeping up’ and doing everything you can to not possibly ‘miss out.’ I know I feel that and I’m sure others get that sense too.

I think missing out is underrated though. When we set up limits for ourselves (intentionally miss out), we give ourselves opportunities to search for other avenues to solve problems and reach our goals. If the route we take is always the exact same that everyone else takes, how can we stand out or be different?

Next blog post Thursday, August 1.
