Polar Opposites
I don’t know a lot about politics and I’m not going to pretend to, but it does seem like there’s a lot of division in our society today. At least, there’s a lot of division portrayed in our media. Despite that portrayal, I’m not sure how divided our society really is. I do know that it often seems like the loudest, angriest voices are the ones we give the biggest microphones to.
When something isn’t perfect, there’s often a tendency to run to the complete opposite side of things and to pit those two views as polar opposites, when in reality all we needed to do was to make adjustments. We don’t necessarily need to change everything, we just needed to change our view a little bit, and reconstruct some things.
Even though I’m doing 365 days of no social media, I am not anti social media. There are tons of positives with social media, and its enables us to do things we never could’ve done before. I’m just not sure I was using it well, so I decided to make a change. Everyone is capable of change, and everyone is capable of change without becoming hateful or bitter.
I’m not actually completely anti a lot of things, just like I think many of us are. I’m much more interested in listening and learning new things than dismissing others or opposing views. At the end of the day, I think we all have to think for ourselves and do our best to figure out the complexities of this world, and what small actions we can take to make it better. It will never be perfect, but it can always be better.
We all find errors in how we think and how we act at some point in life. When we do, we can make adjustments. We try new things, embrace grace, and try our best to do better.
We might not necessarily need to flip to a polar opposite view or throw out absolutely everything we’ve learned or experienced. Our past will always be some part of who we are. We may not be able to completely get rid of it, but we can take it apart, and reconstruct it into something better.
