Southern California: Tour Journal

May 29 - May 31, 2019

I’m nervous. Today begins my big solo adventure around America and Europe: 47 days, 19 flights, 20+ cities, and 9 different countries.

Step 1: Kansas City to Los Angeles. The adventure begins…

… Hmm… Okay, how do I do this? No one told me to do this, and I’ve don’t know anyone personally who has ever done a trip like this. This was all just my crazy idea to do something cool. I planned this all out, but I’m honestly a little doubtful.

Eh, whatever, this’ll be fun!

Take in all the sights. Just try to live in the moment. Be confident, have fun, and make some great art!

I told everyone I’d do at least one sketch every single day of trip, but I have no idea where to start. I look up and see a TSA agent checking people’s passports. Well, this might not be the most exciting thing, but every journey has to start somewhere. First sketch down.

The plane lands at LAX. All I had was a backpack, a few essentials, and my sketchbook to document the journey.

I drew a few pictures on the beaches of Santa Barbara. I met another lost traveler like myself. It’s interesting whose paths you cross when you stop trying to get where you were going. I hung out with, and interviewed my favorite artist and friend, Stephen Holland.

The journey was all ahead of me, and I had no idea where I was going. I mean, I guess I knew where I was going, but I really had no idea what it would be like.
